Bio
Hi, Bobcat families. I am your music teacher, Darren Layfield. I always enjoy getting to know your families, so here is a little info about me and my family. I grew up in Tifton, Georgia and started music at an early age when my dad gave me a guitar at the age of 5 (I think he wanted me to learn chords so he could play lead). I played trumpet in band in high school and during my years at Valdosta State University. It was at Valdosta State that I earned my Bachelor's Degree. I received my Master's from GCSU in Milledgeville, and my Educational Specialist from Auburn University just this past year (although I am still a UGA DAWG at heart). I began my career as a middle grades band director (first year also included high school). My band's first performance that first year was for the torch relay for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.
My wife and I have 4 boys, 2 dogs, a bearded dragon, 2 geckos and rabbit. Yes, we have a zoo. I enjoy riding bikes and watching my boys play tennis.
This year will be the start of year 29 in music education for me and I truly enjoy it. My goal is to prepare students for future musical endeavors while having as much fun as possible at the same time.
